First Mars Crude into Germany this Month

According to Refinitiv ship tracking data, the Capricorn Sun tanker loaded Mars Sour crude off the Louisiana coast in the US and discharged at Rostock, Germany on Aug. 3. The tanker was chartered by Shell. It was estimated to have carried about 570,000 barrels.

  • Refinitiv said it was the first Mars shipment into Rostock as refiners look for alternatives to Russian barrels.
  • European refiners are looking to replace Russian barrels with Norwegian, Saudi Arabian, UK and US grades.
