US DATA REACT: Fitch chief economist Brian Coulton notes that while Q4 GDP
missed their expectation slightly, the "numbers provide some reassurance that
the US economy looks more resilient than elsewhere. In particular consumer
spending continued to grow solidly and, most encouragingly, business investment
growth recovered sharply after a dip in Q3." Coulton adds that "labour market
strength and ongoing fiscal stimulus should see domestic demand expanding by
enough to keep GDP growth above potential in 2019, despite a rising drag from
net trade."
