US: Following on from left-wing Senator Bernie Sanders' narrow win in the New
Hampshire Democratic primary, betting markets have shown some marginal shifts in
expectations of who will be the party's eventual presidential nominee.
- Sanders fell from a probability of 39.8% on 11 Feb to 36.4% now. He had high
hopes going into NH, but was only able to secure 1st place by 1.3%, winning
25.7% of the vote to former South Bend, In. Mayor Pete Buttigieg on 24.4%.
- A small jump in Buttigieg's prospects, rising from 11.2% on 11 Feb to 13.7% .
- Former VP Joe Biden performed even worse than expected, coming 5th with 8.4%
support. Betting markets give him a 5.8% chance of the nomination, from 7.8%.
- Bettors also moving towards moderate Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar.
Previously not included Betdata.io tables, Klobuchar is now given a 4.2% chance
of securing the nomination.
- Former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg remains 2nd favourite, at 25.6% from 23.8%
yesterday despite not running in any primaries before Super Tuesday (3 Mar).
- NH failed to deliver a knockout blow to any candidate, likely meaning the
congested race continues through Super Tuesday and beyond.
