UK: Foreign interference in British democracy and hacking could prove the main
election story of the day.
- In recent days the gov't has come into criticism from opponents for supposedly
suppressing the release of a report into alleged Russian interference in UK
elections. Report was referred to No.10 on 17 Oct, but has still not been
released with former head of MI5, MPs on the Intelligence and Security
Committee, and opposition politicians stating it must be released ASAP.
- Former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton wades into the debate on
foreign interference in elections stating that "I find it inexplicable that your
government will not release a government report about Russian influence.
Inexplicable and shameful", adding "Every person who votes in this country
deserves to see that report before your election happens,"
- This morning Labour party announces that it has been the victim of a
"sophisticated and large scale cyber attack" on its digital platforms. It has
not said who it believes carried out the attack.
