France in Talks to Increase Gas from Algeria

NATURAL GAS

Talks are underway between Engie and Sonatrach to increase gas imports to France according to the French energy ministry.

  • An agreement for an increase in imports from Algeria could come following an official visit by President Macron.
  • Europe 1 radio reported that gas flows could increase by about 50% although this has not been confirmed. Algeria currently makes up to 8-9% of gas supplies to France.
  • In July, Sonatrach agreed to increase gas supplies to Italy by 4bcm on top of the 21bcm already planned. Algeria's total gas exports last year were 54bcm according to official figures.
