France Risks Power Outages in Case of EU Power Market Exit

France risks higher power prices and power supply outages if the country was to the exit the European power market, Engie CEO, Catherine MacGregor, said on Sunday, cited by Bloomberg.

  • “Without a European power market, we’d be exposed to even more volatile prices, and even to the risk of blackouts. Re-introducing energy barriers within Europe would increase the risk of supply problems and higher prices”, MacGregor said.
  • Marie LePen’s party previously said it would seek to reintroduce French pricing and exit the indexation of power prices on the European gas market.
  • IFOP polls suggested last Thursday, Marine LePen’s Rassemblement National continued to lead with 34% of the votes.
