France to Experience Curtailments of Power Exports from August: RTE

POWER

French TSO RTE has warned of “significant” curtailments of power exports from August until mid-October due to domestic gird constraints, according to market participants, cited by Montel.

  • TSO officials stated in an online meeting that there "would be quite significant curtailments from August to mid-October, as severe as what we recently saw," a London-based trader told Montel.
  • Another German trader at the meeting reported that the TSO mentioned a "possibility" of a repeat of the events in March and April. But this was unsure.
  • The officials also said further export cuts could take place next year but gave no details, market participants added.
  • The market anticipated cutbacks, reflected in price spreads between Germany and France for the August and October contracts, the London-based trader added.
  • The French-German August 2024 Baseload power contract is at a €23.97/MWh discount at the time of writing – widening from €21.63/MWh on 23 May.
