France to Make it Through Winter: EDF

ENERGY

France’s domestic energy supplies will make it through the winter without any major problems according to EDF executive Marc Benayoun to the French senate today.

  • "I personally don't believe in them," he said when speaking about catastrophe scenarios, adding "We have not had any blackout in France since 1978,".
  • Europe is in a race to fill domestic gas storage ahead of winter. The region is waiting to see if Russia resume flows on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany when it is set to come back from 10-day maintenance after shutting July 11.
  • “It’s simply a situation like we haven’t had before,” Robert Habeck, Germany’s economy minister, told German public radio Deutschlandfunk on Monday. “We honestly always have to prepare for the worst and work a little bit for the best.”
