FRANCE: WH Confirms Biden-Macron To Meet At G20 Summit

White House National Security advisor Jake Sullivan has confirmed that President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron will meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome over the weekend.

  • This meeting between the two leaders will be the first since the announcement of the formation of the AUKUS security alliance that resulted in a major diplomatic falling-out between France and the United States.
  • Relations have improved somewhat since then, with the French ambassador to the US reinstated, but significant uncertainty remains concerning France's future commitment to working in lock-step with the US on security matters, most notably in relation to Russia and China.
