French FM Tells Counterpart To Return To Vienna Talks: RTRS

IRAN

Reuters reporting that the French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, on a phone call with his newly-installed Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian that Iran must return to the negotiating table in Vienna regarding the Iran nuclear deal 'immediately'.

  • RTRS quotes the French Foreign Ministry statement: "The minister underlined the importance and the urgency of an immediate resumption of negotiations, interrupted by Iran since June,"
  • As noted in the 1156BST EM bullet, European powers have seemingly been rattled by earlier comments from Amirabdollahian that Iran could return to the Vienna talks in two-to-three months.
  • France and other European signatories of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Germany and the UK) have sought to encourage Iran to return to compliance with the deal following Tehran's announcements regarding their enriching uranium well above the levels required for power generation.
