French Manufacturing Confidence Boosted by Auto Industry

  • French manufacturing confidence gained a point in October, following three consecutive months of weakening sentiment. The indicator has remained above the long-term average of 100 since April 2021.
  • A boost across order books, inventories and employment was noted, yet outlooks concerning economic uncertainty weakened and remained pessimistic.
  • Improvements in transport and automotive drove the rebound, and capital goods and agricultural sectors also saw (albeit more muted) improvement.
  • This survey implies another boost to upcoming IP production data, which saw a robust August print due to auto sector production.
