French Weekly Gas Demand At Six-Week Low

France’s natural gas consumption fell to the lowest level in six weeks to 9.4TWh in the week to 11 February, down from 10.4TWh a week earlier, GRTgaz data showed.

  • Consumption for public distribution dropped week on week by 5% to 7 TWh amid milder weather.
  • Industrial demand was flat at 2.4 TWh, while power sector demand dipped to 0.1 TWh, down from 0.5 TWh in the week to 4 February.
  • French natural gas demand totaled 218.5TWh between 1 August 2023 and 11 February 2024, down by 24.5% from the same period in 2018-2019, the data showed. Weather adjusted, demand during the period was 20% lower.
  • Industrial gas consumption fell by 24.8% during the period to 61.6TWh, while gas use for power generation declined by 42.2% to 15.9TWh – amid higher nuclear availability.
