Frost: EU-UK In 'Low Equilibrium, Somewhat Fractious Relationship'

Lord Frost in his Lisbon speech underway, some selected comments below:

  • "We have got into a low equilibrium, somewhat fractious relationship, but it need not always be like that". Adds that 'it does not always need to be like that'...'Fixing the very serious problem we have in the Northern Ireland Protocol is a prerequisite for getting to that better place'
  • UK 'no longer has an interest in coalition-building across the EU to shape EU rules', but Frost talks up importance of relations with Baltic states, Poland, and importance of military alliance with France.
  • 'So-called 'hard Brexit' was the only form of Brexit which allowed us freedom to experiment and freedom to act.'
  • 'Too often the debate on Brexit is too technocratic...fundamental element about democracy...allow us to set our own ways of doing things. This is fundamental'.
