TURKEY: Fuel Taxes to Rise at Lower-Than-Inflation Pace

  • The special consumption tax for fuel has been increased by 6% - slightly lower than the automatic uprating that would follow the PPI outturns this year. Finance minister Simsek commented that "we made an even lower increase than the 5-month PPI. We are giving up about TRY 12bln in tax".
  • Trade data out this morning showed the November trade deficit widening to $7.459bln, marginally wider than market forecast of $7.4bln. Imports rose 2.7%, while exports fell 3.1% on a Y/Y basis.
