Further French Strikes May Impact Fuel Supply

France’s CGT union has called for a 48-hour strike starting Jan. 26 as well as a 72-hour action from Feb. 6, in addition to the day of coordinated protests labor unions have agreed on for Jan. 31.

  • There was a 24-hour strike on Thursday that interrupted fuel deliveries from three TotalEnergies refineries, but fuel stations did not face shortages.
  • The CGT said they are potentially planning other demonstration measures in the energy sector including supplying free energy, targeted power cuts, or measures that could hamper operations at LNG terminals and gas storage facilities.
  • The strikes are panned to become progressively more serious according to the CGT.
