Gas Prices Falling Again

LNG

Natural gas prices were lower on Wednesday with Europe down 1.6% to EUR 25.79 off the intraday low of EUR 25.18. The resource was driven lower by high seasonal storage levels and weak demand. Supplies from Norway are expected to be higher than 2023 due to less maintenance, which will be a significant help refilling storage ahead of next winter.

  • According to Bloomberg Intelligence, European industrial demand is around 20% lower than before Russia invaded Ukraine as manufacturing struggles.
  • US natural gas prices fell 1.0% to $1.84 as April weather is expected to be warmer than average. “Seasonally prices begin to trend higher in mid-April … the current heavy surplus to storage may slow that seasonal rally”, according to Kissler from BOK Financial Securities. EIA stock data is released later today.
  • North Asian prices moderated 0.5%. Shipments rose 12% y/y in March, according to ship tracking data from Kpler.
