Gas Supply Problems Still a Risk: RWE

Germany must accelerate construction of gas import infrastructure to avoid supply squeezes, RWE CEO Markus Krebber said, reported by Reuters.

  • "We don't have any buffer in the gas system…If there is very cold winter or supply disruptions it can lead to very critical situations - and as a result to shortages and significantly higher prices," he said.
  • Germany has turned to floating LNG terminals, FSRUs, to plug the gap left by Russian gas. Three FSRUs are currently working, in: Wilhelmshaven, Brunsbuettel and Lubmin.
  • According to Krebber, there is a risk of delays with further infrastructure, and it is critical for the German Government in Berlin to continue the expansion of planned LNG infrastructure.
