GASOLINE: West Africa Seeking Alternative Gasoline as ARA Supply Falls
GASOLINE
Gasoline exports from Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) to West Africa fell about 150kb/d in September to the lowest since May 2020, according to Kpler data cited by Reuters.
- Exports from Belgium to West Africa were at their lowest since December 2020 at about 90kb/d and wider EU and UK region exports fell to a one-year low of 250kb/d.
- Northwest Europe gasoline sales to West Africa have been limited by fuel quality export restrictions from Belgium and the Netherlands and financial constraints of importers in Nigeria.
- Any shortfall, causing West Africa buyers to exploring other options, could be temporary until Nigeria's 650kb/d Dangote refinery is able to fully meet demand. However, it could be several months until gasoline production is able to meet Nigerian domestic demand.
- Gasoline supply from Malta rose to 20kb/d in July and August from 4kb/d in H1 2024 while Spain supply has risen to 35kb/d, a fourfold increase on last year.
