GER Gov't Calls On EU COM To Talk w/Member States On Sputnik V Procurement

Social media and wires reporting that the German gov't source has called on the European Commission to hold talks with member state gov'ts regarding the potential to procure Russia's Sputnik V vaccine in the event it is approved for use.

  • At present the EMA has yet to approve the Russian jab for use in the bloc. So far, Hungary is the only EU member state that has broken ranks and begun to administer the Russian vaccine (as well as others not yet approved by the EMA).
  • Germany has been one of the countries pushing hardest to get the Russian vaccine approved for use, and has raised the prospect of going outside Commission channels to gain access to doses on a bilateral basis with Moscow.
