GER Health Min: 'We Don't Expect EMA To Give AZ Vaccine Unlimited Approval'

German Health Minister Jens Spahn speaking at a press conference says that he does not expect the European Medicines Agency to give unlimited approval to the AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine.

  • EMA decision due later today.
  • Spahn's comments come after Germany's RKI recommends the vaccine is not used for over-65s, citing a lack of data proving the jab's efficacy in that cohort.
  • EU and AZ remain at loggerheads over the supply of the vaccine. Senior EU officials considering drastic measures to ensure supply to the bloc, including halting export of vaccines and even invoking Art.122 on the Treaty of the European Union, which Council President Charles Michel has implied could force drugmakers to share patents or ramp up production at the behest of the EU institutions.
