German Crude Imports Rise 14.6% Jan-Apr: BAFA

German crude imports rose by 14.6% in the first four months of the year versus the same period last year according to BAFA figures.

  • German oil imports in January through April from all origins increased to 28.5 million tonnes from 24.9 million in the same months of 2021,
  • Russia contributed 35% of the volumes over that period.
  • British and Norwegian volumes contributed 21.5%.
  • OPEC countries contributed 17.7%.
  • Germany spent 18.5 billion euros on crude imports over the period, 99% higher than a year prior.
  • BAFA data has a two-month lag, meaning the full impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is not fully showing in the data.
