German Gas Consumption Declines Exceed Reduction Target

German gas consumption last week rose by 8% week on week but remained 38% below the four-year average because of milder weather and holidays, Bnetza said.

  • Gas demand adjusted for temperatures during the calendar weeks 52 and 1 stood 25% below the four-year average, exceeding the country’s gas demand reduction target of 20%.
  • German gas storage reserves stood at 91.01% of capacity on 10 Jan. Germany saw 18 days of uninterrupted net stock injections between 21 Dec and 8 Jan, amid lower demand because of the holidays and seasonally mild weather.
  • Gas output for power generation stood at a total of 704.3GWh, up from 458.2GWh the week prior, but well below the same last year at 933.6GWh – not adjusted for temperatures, data from energy-charts show.
