German Gas Demand Fell WoW, Lagged 20% Reduction Target

German gas consumption declined on the week and stood 12%, temperature-adjusted, below the 2018-2021 average last week, driven by higher gas savings in the industrial sector, Bnetza data show.

  • German gas consumption in calendar week five stood 14.3% below the 2018-21 average. Demand declined by 13% week on week amid milder weather.
  • Temperature adjusted demand stood 12% below the average, missing the country’s 20% gas demand reduction target.
  • German industrial gas consumption last week stood lagged 2018-2021 average levels by 18.4%, while demand from households and businesses stood 10.2% below the average.
  • German gas storage capacity stood at 75.4% of capacity on 7 Feb, down from 78.6% a week earlier, AGSI data show.
