German Gas Demand In Jan Stood 23% Below 2018-2021 Average

German gas consumption in January was 22.9% below the 2018-2021 average, while demand picked up towards the end of the month, lagging the country’s 20% gas reduction targets, Bnetza data show.

  • Industrial gas demand in January stood 22.7% below the 2018-2021 average, while households and businesses consumed 23.1% less gas.
  • Gas consumption during calendar week four (24-30 Jan) rose 8.2% week on week and stood 8.6% below the 2018-2021 average. Temperature-adjusted demand during the period stood 14% below the average, missing the country’s 20% reduction target.
  • German gas storage reserves stood at 78.6% of capacity on 31 Jan, down from 83.79% a week earlier. Germany exceeded its regulatory minimum gas storage target of 40% on 1 Feb.
  • TTF MAR 23 down -3.3% at 57.55€/MWh
