German Gas Demand Rose Above Average Despite Mild Weather

German natural gas consumption last week stood 9.6% above the 2018-2021 average, despite temperatures above the seasonal norm, Bnetza data showed.

  • Temperatures in Germany last week stood 1.7°C above the average during 2018-2021.
  • Industrial gas use stood at 2,154GWh/d last week, above the average of 2,028GWh/d for the second consecutive week.
  • Natural gas consumption from households and small businesses stood at 2,342GWh/d last week, above the 2018-21 average of 2,073GWh/d.
  • German gas demand stood 11.9% above the average during the second calendar week.
  • Germany’s natural gas inventories stood at 77.06% of capacity as of 23 January, down from 81.69% a week earlier, GIE data showed.
