ELECTRICITY: German TSO Progresses North-West Grid Expansion

German TSO Amprion has signed contracts with Hitachi for the supply four converter stations for two high voltage direct current links that will connect Germany’s wind-rich North Sea region with North Rhine-Westphalia, it said. 

  • The HVDC links, known as V48 and V49, form Korridor B, will have each a capacity of 2GW and will transport electricity from the North Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony to the Ruhr region early 2030s.
