German Weekly Gas Demand 32.6% Below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last week stood 32.6% below the 2018-2021 average. Demand rose by 12.7% week on week, largely driven by a recovery in industrial demand use, Bnetza data showed.

  • Demand stood 37% below the average in the week prior.
  • Consumption from industry continued its recovery and stood 1.4% below 2022 levels at 1.2TWh/d.
  • Natural gas demand from households and small businesses stood at 423GWh/d last week, down by around 33% from last year’s levels.
  • German natural gas reserves stood at 98.42% of capacity as of 17 October, up from 97.1% a week earlier, GIE data showed.
