German Weekly Gas Demand Fell 27.8% Below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last week fell 27.8% below the 2018-2021 average, as milder weather weighed especially on household demand, Bnetza data showed.

  • Industrial gas use last week fell to1,496GWh,d, below the 2018-21 average of 1,844GWh/d but above 2023 levels of 1,406GWh/d.
  • Natural gas demand from households and small businesses last week dropped to 1,112GWh, below the 2018-21 average of 1,769GWh/d and 2023 levels of 1,271GWh/d.
  • Temperatures last week stood 2.6°C above average levels during 2018-21.
  • German gas demand in the week prior stood 14.8% below the 2018-21 average.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany stood at 65.97% of capacity on 19 March, down from 66.5% a week earlier, GIE data showed.
