German Weekly Gas Demand Fell Back Below 2018-21 Average

NATURAL GAS

German natural gas consumption stood 2.6% below the 2018-2021 average last weeks, after rising 8.6% above the average in the week prior, driven by colder weather, Bnetza data showed.

  • Industrial gas consumption stood at 1,928GWh/d last week, compared with 1,877GWh/d in the same week last year. Demand stood 6% below the 2018-2 average.
  • Gas demand from households and businesses stood at 1,999GWh/d last week, slightly above 2022 levels of 1,951GWh/d and the 2018-2021 average of 1,981GWh/d.
  • German gas storage stood at 91.56% full on 12 December, down from 93.37% a week earlier. German inventories fell below last year’s levels since end-November, driven by large storage withdrawals due to a cold spell.
