Germany Adds 9.3GW of Renewables in 1H24

Around 9.3GW of renewables were put into operation in Germany in 1H24, mostly due to solar installations – with 10% more PV output added on the year, data from BNetza show.

  • Germany’s total renewable output increased by 5.3% compared to the end of 2023, the agency added.
  • The country added 377MW of additional offshore wind capacity, located in the North and Baltic Seas.
  • 400MW of power plants were decommissioned over the period, with BNetza stating that for every 600MW commissioned 230MW will be decommissioned.
