Germany Expected to Announce Gas Plan Phase 2

NATURAL GAS

German is expected to enter the second phase of its three-part emergency gas plan today based on several news reports.

  • Germany has faced gas supply pressure because of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline flows from Russian which have been arriving at 40% capacity.
  • The phase 2 alarm in theory allows utilities to pass on higher prices to industry and households but that is not expected at this stage.
  • The German Economy Ministry is expected to announce on the matter shortly.
  • In the second stage, the market is still able to absorb missing volume without the need for state intervention that would kick in in the final emergency stage.
