Germany Expects Mild Winter but Urges Gas Reductions: Bnetza

NATURAL GAS

Germany’s energy regulator Bnetza expects a mild winter comparable to the modelled climate prediction but urges consumers to economise gas demand even during milder temperatures, it said on Thursday.

  • Temperatures are estimated to average around 2° C during Dec-Feb, compared with long-term average at 1.4° C.
  • “A comparable mild winter could help us to persevere the necessary reduction of gas consumption of a minimum of 20% also in the coming months. Thanks to full gas inventories we have a good starting position…but only a few cold days could be enough, that consumption is increasing, and inventory levels will decline faster”, Klaus Mueller, president of Bnetza, said.
  • He also urged consumers to economise gas demand during milder periods this winter.
