Germany Is Too Slow To Reach Gas Turbine Capacity By 2030: GE

Germany is moving too slowly to achieve 30GW of gas turbine capacity by 2030 according to Martin O'Neill, vice president for strategy at GE Gas Power.

  • Germany needs the 30GW turbine capacity to stabilise its electricity distribution network.
  • The country's current pipeline includes 4GW, while the time frame to commissioning is five years, he added.
  • Germany is currently bridging short-term gaps, amid the supply gap from Russia, with an extension of two nuclear reactors and additional coal and lignite capacity from the grid reserve.
