Germany Plans Increased LNG Capacity to Help Supply Other Nations

Germany expects to ship about 5.5bcm of fuel to European nations this year, rising to 6.7bcm in 2026 according to an Economy Ministry report for the budget committee.

  • Demand for deliveries comes from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Ukraine and Moldova.
  • The LNG infrastructure expansion is in line with what is needed “and necessary in terms of European solidarity,” according to the report.
  • The report shows six FSRU would raise capacity to at least 37bcm per year by 2024 and up to 54bcm on the completion of land terminals in Brunsbuettel, Stade and Wilhelmshaven by 2026-27.
