GILT SUMMARY: Gilts have opened marginally higher, taking cue from mild recovery
in US Treasuries overnight, but it is the short-end that is currently
outperforming and in turn bull steepening the yield curve. 10-yr Gilt yield is
0.3bp lower at 1.407%, while 2-yr is 0.5bp lower at 0.502%.
- Main focus today will be on ECB monetary policy decision at 1245BST and then
comments from President Draghi at the press conference 45 minutes later.
Consensus is for a 9-month extension to its QE programme at a reduced rate of
E30bln per month.
- The other focus is on the the announcement of a new Fed Chair expected in the
next few days, were latest odds from Betfair sees Powell at 2-1 and Taylor at
3.2-1.
- There is UK CBI distributive trades survey released at 1100BST but is this
unlikely to get the markets too excited being so close to a Bank of England
super Thursday meeting next week.
