Glapinski Criticises Three MPC Members For Publishing Dissenting View On 2023 Budget

NBP

The publication of a dissenting opinion to the central bank's assessment of draft 2023 budget by three MPC members violates "at least good practice," NBP Governor Glapinski said on Tuesday.

  • Last week, MPC's Litwiniuk, Tyrowicz and Kotecki circulated their assessment of the draft spending plan via social media after accusing central bank leadership of refusing to include their dissenting views in official statement on the matter after they were outvoted in the Committee.
  • Glapinski noted that the dissenting opinion "is a de facto alternative assessment which admittedly contains some critical remarks on fiscal policy, but in its essence does not contradict the view adopted by the Committee."
  • The Governor criticised his three colleagues for their call on the government to calibrate fiscal policy in order to contain inflation. He cited economic projections which already point to a moderation in inflationary pressures next year and alluded to the dissenters' alleged preference for fighting inflation with recession.
