Global Airline Capacity Down 1.1% on the Week: OAG

JET FUEL

Global airline capacity has fallen to 110.5m in the week commencing Oct. 9, according to OAG, down 1.1% on the previous week.

  • This is equivalent to a fall of around 1.3m seats coming out of schedule, according to OAG.
  • Capacity is now 1.6% below levels seen during the same period in 2019, prior to the pandemic and its impact on global travel.
  • Domestic reductions have been driven by a fall in Northeast Asia, responsible for 83% of the decrease. This is likely due to an abating of travel demand in China following the end of its Golden Week holiday period.
  • Domestic capacity constitutes 66.4m seats, in-line with pre-pandemic levels of 2019. International travel still lags 2019 levels, trailing by 4% at 44.2m seats.
