Global Airline Passenger Capacity Rises 0.37% on Week: OAG

Global airline passenger capacity is set to rise to 112.45m seats in the seven days commencing April 15, OAG said.

  • This is a rise of 0.37% on the previous week, displaying a smaller week-on-week percentage rise from the previous 0.42% increase.
  • Domestic capacity is up 0.49% to 66.93m seats, while international capacity is up 0.21% to 45.52m seats.
  • The rise on the week is below expectations, with last week’s forward schedule expecting a rise of 1.01% to 113.17m seats.
  • Capacity is undershooting the forecast by 0.716m seats, driven by a 0.692m shortfall in domestic capacity.
  • Looking at April as a whole, total passenger capacity across the month is expected to rise by 7.8% year-on-year to 483.9m seats.
  • Capacity in Western Europe is up 9%, while Northeast Asia’s capacity is up 7.6%.
