Global Jet Fuel Demand Set for Third Weekly Fall

Global demand for jet fuel is set for a third weekly decline, driven by the transition to the post summer season lull, according to BNEF.

  • Implied jet fuel demand is set for a 0.4% to 6.65m mt in the week to Sept. 4, based on passenger flight schedules for the corresponding week.
  • The key drivers of the fall in jet fuel are the North American and Asian markets, falling by 0.5% and 0.7% respectively.
  • Flight numbers for the Eurocontrol zone are expected to continue declining by a small margin for the remainder of August and into September, matching seasonal norms. However, departures in the Eurocontrol area from Aug.21-27 increased by 1.1% week-on-week.
  • Global Airline Capacity is set to decline by 1.3m seats to 114.5m in the week commencing Aug. 28, according to OAG.
