Global LNG Imports to Fall in May on High Stocks as Outages Limit Supply

LNG

Global LNG imports in May could drop 2% from April to 33.0m tons driven by high inventories in Northwest Europe and Spain and potentially boosting LNG on water according to Bloomberg.

  • Imports in North Asia are set to decline slightly, with a marginal rebound in mainland China offset by receding demand in Japan and South Korea to due high storage levels.
  • Imports in South Asia are set to rise slightly on the month with falling spot prices boosting the activity of price-sensitive buyers.
  • Global LNG supply could be 6% lower in May than April at 33.4m tons with plant maintenance in Australia, Qatar, the US and Norway more than offsetting the return of Freeport in US.
