Global Weekly Airline Capacity to fall 1.2%: OAG

Global Airline Capacity is set to decline by 1.3m seats to 114.5m in the week commencing Aug. 28, according to OAG.

  • This is in line with seasonal norms, as the same week in 2019 also saw a 1.3m seat decline.
  • Capacity for the next 4 weeks is set to fall to around 113.3m, with weekly capacity then dropping to around 97.5m at the start of the IATA winter season.
  • Total capacity is 0.6% below the same period in 2019. Domestic capacity is 3.2% above 2019 levels, while international capacity remains 5.7% below.
  • Global totals have been impacted by fluctuations in Northeast Asian and North American domestic markets.
  • Northeast Asia’s domestic capacity is down 3.5% on the week, but 11.2% above the same week in 2019.
  • In North America, domestic capacity is down 2.6% on the week, but is up 3.8% when compared to the same period in 2019.
