Global Weekly LNG Imports Ticked Higher

Global LNG imports rose by 14% on the week to a total of 8.5mn tons during 27 November and 3 December, driven by higher volumes into Japan, South Korea, and NW Europe according to BNEF.

  • Japanese LNG imports grew by 0.26mn tons on the week to 1.42mn tons. South Korea imported 0.99mn tons last week, up from 0.78mn tons the week before.
  • In contrast, shipments into China dipped by 0.34mn tons to 1.27mn tons.
  • NW Europe and Italy imported 1.88mn tons of LNG last week, up from 1.43mn tons the week prior.
  • Global LNG exports on 26 November to 3 December fell by 2% on the week to 8mn tons.
  • Australian exports fell by 0.14mn tons to 1.41mn tons last week, likely driven by the halt to loadings at the Australia Pacific LNG terminal.
  • Qatar’s LNG exports rose by 0.17mn tons to 1.60mn tons, while shipments out of the US dropped by 0.9mn tons to 1.74mn tons.
