GOP Sen. Collins Confirms Vote Against Biden's Budget Director Pick

US

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME), seen as a moderate within the party, has confirmed that she will vote against President Biden's pick to be next Director of the Office of Management and Budget Neera Tanden.

  • Tanden is facing the increasing possibility of her nomination being rejected by the Senate, with moderate Democrat Joe Manchin (D-WV) also confirming that he would vote against her confirmation.
  • Tanden's undoing (as with so many other politicians) has been her prolific tweeting. Over the past several years Tanden, who served as president of the centre-left Center for American Progress think tank, has issued vitriolic tweets towards numerous GOP politicians, as well as left-wing Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
  • With Manchin and Collins set to vote against Tandem's nomination the prospect of her being approved by the Senate becomes even slimmer. She would have to rely on another Republican senator voting in favour of confirmation to allow a 50-50 split that could see VP Harris cast the tie-breaking vote.
