Gov't Planning Overhaul Of Public Finances

  • Rzeczpospolita daily reports that the government is preparing a major overhaul of public finances. According to a white paper adopted by the Cabinet, the special Covid-19 fund (FPC) will stop taking on new debt next year, but some of the other similar funds will continue to work. Specifically, the government wants to finance its increased defence spending from one of the special funds to avoid breaching the so-called fiscal rule that limits public spending.
  • Ruling Law and Justice Party Secretary General Krzysztof Sobolewski said that Poland should expel the Russian ambassador. He emphasised that this is his personal view rather than an official stance of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
  • There is little of note on the local economic docket as Poland returns after a public holiday.
