Government Plans for Energy Sector Remain a Focus

CZECHIA
  • Yesterday, PM Fiala outlined his intent for the government to increase state control across the energy sector, with restructuring to be decided this year. His comments follow reports earlier this year that some steps to exert additional control over the 70% state-owned electricity producer CEZ, may "already be visible this year" but declined to elaborate.
  • Elsewhere, CNB’s deputy governor Frait reiterated that Czech rates are to stay elevated for a longer period. Earlier this year, Frait has outlined his view that the CNB may not cut rates at all in 2023, despite markets pricing as much as 150bps of easing ahead of year-end.
