COLOMBIA: Government Seeks Reset Of US Relations, Retail Sales, IP This Week

  • Speaking on Friday, Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia has said that she wants to reset relations with the US after the recent falling out between Presidents Petro and Trump. With that in mind, Sarabia said that the US homeland security chief is planning to visit Colombia this month to discuss drug trafficking and migration. Sarabia also said that the government is looking to expand its options with other parts of the world, including Persian Gulf states such as Qatar and the UAE, and Indo-Pacific nations.
  • In other news, the government has said that Javier Cuellar, who is currently leading the country’s National Guarantee Fund, will replace Jose Roberto Acosta as director of the finance ministry’s public credit office. Acosta left his post last month, after more than two years of managing financial strategy for the government.
  • Data wise, the calendar is clear today, ahead of February consumer confidence figures on Wednesday and January retail sales and industrial production on Friday.
