Government to create Additional $2bn Covid Fund

  • The Chilean government will create a $2b fund to finance the fight against Covid-19 and strengthen health services, President Sebastian Pinera said in his annual speech to Chile's congress.
    • Direct aid planned until August of this year amounts to about $20b for the treasury or a quarter of total public spending compared to 2020
  • Operations are normal at the Escondida and Spence copper mines in northern Chile despite a strike by about 200 off-site control staff, according to owner BHP. (BBG)
