Government Will Send Bill To Congress To Promote Economic Growth

COLOMBIA
  • Finance Minister Bonilla said that the government will send a bill to Congress to promote economic growth, which will include a gradual cut to the corporate tax rate to 30% from 35% currently. He also said that the bill will include tax stimulus measures to promote projects in renewable energy and tourism in developing regions of the country.
  • Bonilla said that a new tax bill is needed because of a financing shortfall for the 2025 budget and that the government will ask Congress to modify the fiscal rule to give it more leeway to run a larger deficit next year. Meanwhile, Bonilla said that he sees larger interest rate cuts at coming BanRep meetings as inflation is on course to fall to 5.5% by the end of the year.
  • Today, industrial and retail confidence data for June will be released, while President Petro will be in Paris ahead of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. A two-day oil and gas conference also begins in Bogotá, with the head of the national hydrocarbons agency Orlando Velandia set to speak at 1500BST(1000ET).
