Governor Lowe Due To Speak On Tuesday

RBA

RBA Governor Lowe is set appear at the Walkley Awards for Business Journalism 2021 from 12:00 Sydney/01:00 London.

  • Most believe that there is little scope for the Governor to provide a meaningful surprise for markets, given the continued optionality that the RBA has looked to embed into the upcoming rate hike lift off in recent communique (formal adoption of a focus on wider labour costs in its post-meeting statement, in addition to references to inflation psychology in recent weeks).
  • Looking at the IB strip, a little over 25bp of tightening is priced for the RBA’s June meeting, with a touch over 150bp of cumulative tightening priced through the end of the Bank’s December meeting. Sell-side consensus is a little more tentative than the market, still looking for an August lift off (even though some have frontloaded their call to June in recent weeks).
