Gov't Spox: Chancellor Supports Short, Nationwide Lockdown

GERMANY

Wires and social media reporting that a German govt' spokesman has said that Chancellor Angela Merkel is supportive of a 'short and uniform' lockdown across the country to deal with rising COVID-19 cases.

  • At present the decision on lockdown measures is taken by each state's minister-president, something that has seen a divergence in policies intended to combat the rise in cases.
  • There is no set date for when a new full lockdown might end. The policy matches that of neighbouring countries such as France, which have also recorded an increase in cases.
